ConnectAbility Reflect on 25 Years
ConnectAbility has grown from supporting 12 people with disabilities in 1992 to supporting over 500 people across the Hunter. We now support people with disabilities in home aged care, adolescents and families through counselling and children and community members at Jesmond Neighbourhood Centre

ConnectAbility are celebrating 25 years of supporting people with a disability across the Hunter and the opening of our new premises at Warabrook.
Moving to a larger space is a special milestone for us at ConnectAbility. We commenced with 4 staff and a handful of people looking to us to support them achieve goals and get out into their community and have now grown into a community of our own.
The new building features different areas for skill building, creative and outdoor activities and to gather with friends.
The specially designed areas will assist us to help people achieve goals and enjoy a brighter and more enjoyable environment.
Sharon Claydon, Federal member for Newcastle and ConnectAbility Board Chair Nathan Franks conducted the official opening. Kate Washington, Member for Port Stephens and Sonia Hornery, Member for Wallsend were also in attendance to recognise our achievements.
At the Opening day celebrations in January CEO David Carey reflected on the changes for ConnectAbility.
The future for ConnectAbility involves creating innovative models of support and providing education to the community on major changes such as the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
