Jesmond Neighbour Aid
Jesmond Neighbour Aid is a locally based aged care service operating out of the Silveridge Community Centre and servicing the elderly in Western Newcastle. Jesmond Neighbour Aid provides services that enhance the independence of our clients. Our services are designed to ensure our clients are able to remain living in their home and participating in the life of their community. Jesmond Neighbour Aid does this through providing social support, domestic assistance, shopping and transport assistance.
Jesmond Neighbour Aid provides social support through our 2 friendship clubs. These groups enjoy morning tea, nourishing lunches and a variety of activities such as entertainers and guest speakers. We also provide a variety of social outings to various places throughout the Newcastle area.
Jesmond Neighbour Aid provides an assisted transport service which offers transport to medical and professional appointments or access to other community services. The transport is provided by committed and friendly volunteers who are rostered to pick up clients at a time that suits you. Transport is available from 9am till 5pm Monday-Friday.
Jesmond Neighbour Aid provides shopping assistance to clients to ensure that your kitchen is stocked with the foods you love to eat. Clients are able to be transported to and from the supermarket and receive support to complete their shopping or have their shopping done on their behalf by the provision of a shopping list. Our shopping assistants are dedicated volunteers who enjoy helping the elderly.
Jesmond Neighbour Aid offers house cleaning and other domestic assistance to ensure our clients are able to keep their homes in the way they choose. We will allocate a trained domestic assistant who will visit your home at a time that suits you. Our domestic assistants are professional cleaners and they carry out mopping, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning toilets & bathrooms and can also hang out washing and change bed linen. You will have the choice of the cleaner using your products or one’s that are supplied.
Jesmond Neighbour Aid offers services that are subsidised by the government so you will never pay the full cost of the service you receive. Each service has a low reasonable fee that you will find fits in your budget. We have a hardship policy to support clients who may be going through difficult times financially.
The Heartmoves exercise program is a low to moderate exercise program designed by the Heart Foundation and the Department of Health. Run by accredited exercise professionals, the classes are suitable for anyone who is not currently exercising or previously exercised. The class is also a great place for people to make new friends and work with others to get moving, and have fun exercising at their own level within a small group. Heartmoves is open to everyone and is designed to be safe for people with stable long term health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes or obesity.
The Heart Foundation’s Heartmoves name lets the public and health professional know that these exercise programs are low to moderate in intensity, have a specially trained and accredited leader, follow safety guidelines and encourage people to start slowly and work safely at their own pace
