ConnectAbility Australia offers a supported independent living solution that is so much more than accommodation, it’s about life and all that matters to you.
At ConnectAbility Australia our model ensures that people have choice and freedom in their lives whilst having the individualized assistance they need close at hand. Our supported independent living (SIL) accommodation models are tailored for the differing support needs of the residents.
The supports are designed and led by you and other important people in your life to make sure you get what you want out of life. Moving into a new home is exciting, but sometimes a daunting experience, both for the individual and those who are part of the person’s life, that’s why it’s important to choose a provider you can trust.
You may know Supported Independent Living (SIL) under titles such as – Disability Accommodation or Group Homes. These were the terms used prior to the introduction of the NDIS. They all refer to accommodation where you are supported to live independently with staff either dropping in, are onsite for emergencies or where are located in the home 24/7
Our homes are in the communities where we live and work, and are tailored to your individual needs. Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS funded model of shared accommodation. It can mean living with one or more people that have similar personalities and needs and are supported by ConnectAbility staff across aspects of daily living.
There are a variety of models that are funded by the NDIS and ConnectAbility work with individuals, families and Coordinators of Support to help you to live in a home that is best suited to your needs. You may be looking at sharing with others or being on your own. You could be looking at apartments, villas or houses either in the centre of town or something more rural.
We can provide concierge models where in an apartment setting there is someone onsite to cover emergencies when your regular support provider is not rostered. ConnectAbility has a range of homes you may like to look at or can help source something specific to meet your needs. We have opportunities across the Hunter, Central Coast and down to northern Sydney. Our aim is to give you choice and control over how you live your life.

Disability accommodation or group home supports have often been seen as options for people with significant disabilities that need a higher level of support to lead the lives they choose. What if you only need a smaller amount of support or additional occasional or emergency assistance. Well a concierge model of supported independent living may be your answer.
Concierge SIL is model of living that allows the resident more choice and control over who provides your day-to-day assistance, while also providing cost-effective 24/7 presence of on-call support workers regardless of your support needs or level of disability.
You are able to choose specific times for when you want to utilize the onsite concierge staff (provided for in your NDIS Plan), and balance this with your preferred provider of daily supports.
For you this means you take control over who provides you assistance with your daily scheduled needs (e.g. personal care, meal preparation) with the concierge service providing:
Housing for a concierge model is often apartment style living with staff located in a separate space within the building. We work alongside you as you move into your new home to ensure you get the outcomes you are looking for. This might include the type of staff you want to provide your support or the equipment and technology that makes your life easier.
While concierge staff and daily Supported independent living staff can be from two different organisations you have the right to choose one to provide both services if that is your choice.
We understand that choosing a provider and moving out on your own can be daunting. Let ConnectAbility take the worry away. We will work with you, and those important in your life – should you choose to make this move the best decision you make towards living your life the way you choose. We assist people to become valued members of the community and maintain those important relationships.
Tenants get to choose providers through consensus. This provider is then on site 24/7 and can be accessed for those unplanned or emergency supports via the communication systems included in your apartment. These emergencies might include if you have a fall or to assist with transfers during the night.
Since 1992, ConnectAbility have been supporting people with a disability to achieve their goals and be connected with their local community in the Newcastle/Hunter area. Our approach is to work closely with each person to ensure the first move is the right move and tailored to their needs, wants and future aspirations.
