Giving Back To The Community

At ConnectAbility, we believe in supporting our people in a holistic way, and helping them be involved with the community as much as they would like to be.

Action in the Community

Nathan, who is supported by our team at Warabrook, expressed a desire to give back. Inspired by his passion, our team reached out to the incredible crew at Reach Homeless Services to see how we could help support their cause.

Reach kindly arranged for supplies to be delivered to ConnectAbility, and Nathan got straight to work assembling food packages for people in need.

With his support worker Justin there assisting, Nathan packed bags full of essential items to be given out to those in need. His enthusiasm was so contagious it didn’t take long before Steven (in the blue shirt) jumped in to help too!

Gary Parsisson, Reach’s Deputy Director/CEO, was proud to let us know how pleased he was that Nathan and Steven were assisting. He explains: “We have had a relationship with ConnectAbility for many years, and ConnectAbility customers have previously been involved in the food packing process, although this is the first time we have worked with the hub at Warabrook. We believe our values and beliefs align closely with ConnectAbility’s and were thrilled to work with ConnectAbility again as they are a great company.”

Taking It One Step Further

The best part? Nathan didn’t just pack the food parcels, he was supported to personally deliver them to Reach Homeless Service’s warehouse. There, he received a behind-the-scenes tour, learning more about the scale of homelessness and the positive impact of community support. Seeing the difference he was making left a lasting impression on Nathan, and has inspired him to keep finding ways to contribute.

Reach Homeless Services has been running in Newcastle for more than 10 years. You can find them every Friday night down at Beaumont Street in Hamilton, distributing meals and essentials packs, such as those packed by Nathan and Steven.
