ConnectAbility CEO, David Carey, recently discussed the federal government’s response to the Disability Royal Commission during an interview with Paul Culliver on ABC radio.
David highlighted the significant impact the recommendations will have on providers and acknowledged the major reforms anticipated within the NDIS. He noted, “The devil is in the detail for providers, how they survive major change not just with implementing reform within the royal commission recommendations… the timeframes we have to do that.. will there be any support?”
David also addressed the financial challenges faced by the sector, pointing out that up to 60% of providers are under financial stress. He emphasised, “The biggest issue is in the implementation of change,” and urged the government to genuinely collaborate with the sector and relevant departments, such as health and education, to ensure successful implementation.
ConnectAbility Australia, a leading NSW-based not-for-profit organisation, also announced a new partnership with Lighthouse Infrastructure and Inclusive Housing Australia (IHA) to transform housing for individuals with disabilities in the Hunter Region, marking a significant leap forward in the provision of Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA).
