Highlights from the Hunter Disability Expo and ConnectAbility in the Herald

This year’s Hunter Disability Expo was a celebration of community, inclusion and shared purpose. Over two action-packed days in May, ConnectAbility staff showed up with heart, enthusiasm and a deep commitment to supporting people of all ages and abilities.

With teams staffing two booths at either end of the stadium, we enjoyed connecting with families, individuals, carers, support coordinators and fellow service providers – listening to people’s stories and discussing how our services could assist. The conversations were rich and the message was clear: when we work together, great things happen.

One of the most exciting conversations was around Early Links joining the ConnectAbility family. Visitors were thrilled to hear how this partnership makes it easy for people across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the Hunter region to access a wide range of services in one place, including:

  • Allied health services
  • Community and centre-based programs
  • Early intervention teaching
  • Supported independent living
  • Plan management
  • Support coordination
  • Youth services

In the lead-up to the Expo, we were proud to feature Lynn, who accesses support through both our Community and Living services in the Newcastle Herald (ConnectAbility helping Lynn find strength and independence | Newcastle Herald | Newcastle, NSW). A passionate bowler with an incredible spirit, Lynn generously shared her journey of reclaiming independence after a brain injury. Her determination, resilience, and great sense of humour touched everyone who read her story. We’re excited to share it again here – not only because it’s inspiring, but because it beautifully reflects the strength and spirit of all ConnectAbility people and the dedicated teams who support them.

Whether you’re exploring options for a child needing early support or looking for ways to enhance independent living, our team is here to walk alongside you every step of the way.

Thank you to everyone who visited us at the Expo. We loved connecting with you and sharing what’s possible when we work together to create inclusive communities. For more information, visit Disability Services & Support – ConnectAbility and www.earlylinks.org.au
